Chickfest

Chickfest 2007 was a HUGE success!  The event kicked off Friday on the bank’s lawn with Capital One’s Hot Dog luncheon, serving over 750 links & dogs.  Meanwhile, the teams for the BBQ Cook-off event started arriving and setting up their cookers, while Doctor Doctor entertained for the evening.  The Carnival for the kids got rolling at 6 PM that night.  On top of all this, the Pirates had their homecoming game vs. Commerce down at Pirate Stadium!

Saturday morning the streets of Downtown filled up with vendor booths and festival-goers under ideal weather conditions.  Bikers started arriving for the Tommy Lee Memorial Biker Run, and all the parade participants began to line up on Fulton Street and in the Cafetorium parking lot.  One of the best parades in recent memory kicked off at 10 AM with the roar of motorcycles leading the way.  Bo & Ken Pilgrim were our Grand Marshalls, and Mayor Kennington was up front, too.  The PHS Marching Band made two performance stops during their march down Mainstreet.

The day continued to unfold with the Scout’s Flag-raising ceremony, a Blood Drive, Ident-a-Kid, Cub Mobile races, Chicken Cooking Contest, BBQ & Chicken lunch, an Antique Car & Classic Truck display, and a Hot Link Eating Contest at Pittsburg Hot Links. The Carnival continued all day & night so the kids could get their fill.  Diddley Squat Blues Band was entertaining the Biker Run at their final stop.  Live Christian music all afternoon on the Courthouse lawn main stage was definitely a welcome addition to the day’s events, receiving great revues.  Entertainers ranged from Megan Humber, Emmanuel Baptist Praise Band, Morning’s Orders, Downings Plus, The New Life Band & the headliner act—Higher Trails—really entertained the crowd.
All in all, a very successful Pittsburg/Camp County Chamber of Commerce event!
