2008 Chickfest Festival
Chickfest 2008 was a HUGE success! The event kicked off Friday on the bank's lawn with the Capital One/Legacy Hospice sponsored Hot Dog luncheon, serving the community free hot dogs. Meanwhile, the teams for the BBQ Cook-off event started arriving and setting up their cookers, and Diddley Squat performed that evening for the cook teams and invited guests. Guaranty Bank provided catfish and Pilgrim Bank provided fajitas.
The Carnival for the kids got rolling at 6 PM that night. On top of all this, the Pirates had a football game at Pirate Stadium!
Saturday morning the streets of Downtown filled up with over a hundred vendor booths and thousands of festival-goers enjoyed ideal weather conditions. Bikers started arriving for the Tommy Lee Memorial Biker Run, and all the parade participants began to line up for the parade. The parade kicked off at 10 AM with the roar of motorcycles leading the way. Tony Combest was the Grand Marshall, riding in memory of her husband Judge Preston Combest. Mayor Kennington and family rode in a Dodge truck, loaned out by DOW. The PHS Marching Band and numerous other participants marched down Main Street.
The day continued to unfold with the Scout's Flag-raising ceremony, a Blood Drive, Ident-a-Kid, Cub Mobile races, BBQ lunch, jump houses, and a Hot Link Eating Contest at Pittsburg Hot Links. The Carnival continued all day and night so the kids could get their fill of the rides. Crossroads entertained the Biker Run at their final stop. Live Christian music was performed all afternoon on the Courthouse lawn main stage, with the headliner act, Higher Trails, closing out the day. All in all, a very successful Camp County Chamber of Commerce event!
